Investment Notes: Pintarnya US$16.7M Series A

We're excited to be backing the Pintarnya team on their journey to build Indonesia's leading integrated financial inclusion ecosystem encompassing employment and financial services. We recently led their Series A round, with participation from Vertex Ventures SE Asia & India and East Ventures.

Indonesia’s working class face many challenges in securing stable employment, with the job search process riddled with inefficiencies. As a result, millions of workers are left with irregular income streams, which in turn limit their ability to have banking relationships or access traditional financial services.

Enter Pintarnya. Pintarnya identified this gap early on and is building a platform that doesn't just help find you a job, but also gives you access to financial services and helps you build financial security.

What started as an AI-powered employment platform in 2022 has evolved into a comprehensive ecosystem serving more than 10 million users and 40,000 employers nationwide. Recognising that unsecured digital loans might not be the best product for its users, Pintarnya partners with asset-backed lenders to offer secured lending backed by collateral such as gold, electronics, or motor vehicles.

Through Pintarnya's financial services network, more than 200,000 users have accessed credit for urgent needs, including healthcare expenses, school tuition fees, and small business inventory – lifelines for many who were previously excluded from traditional financial services.

About the team

We were immediately struck by the founding team's values-driven approach to building for Indonesia's underserved workforce.

The genuine understanding of the challenges facing this segment was evident from our first conversation with Pintarnya’s co-founders, Nelly Nurmalasari, Henry Hendrawan, and Ghirish Pokardas. The team is uniquely equipped to build something transformational in this category by combining world-class technical and operational capabilities with authentic empathy for the users they serve.

The three founders first met at BCG and bring highly complementary strengths to Pintarnya. Nelly combines deep market understanding from her personal experience as a small business owner with world-class operational experience from her leadership roles at Traveloka. Henry has extensive experience in raising capital and building financial service products from scratch as the former President of Traveloka. Ghirish brings expertise in business strategy and strategic finance, honed during his years at BCG and KKR Capstone.

What's next for Pintarnya

The Series A funding will enable Pintarnya to enhance its platform capabilities and expand access to financial services nationwide. The goal is to allow users to more seamlessly benefit from the broader range of financial services offered by ecosystem partners.

We're thrilled to partner with Nelly, Henry, Ghirish, and the entire Pintarnya team as they scale this vital infrastructure for Indonesia's economy.
